Bruce McKain was born in Freetown, Jackson, Indiana on June 22, 1900.

McKain began his studies at Herron Al from 1918 to 1922.  From 1923 until 1933, he studied with Charles Hawthorne.  McKain was a Member of PAAM, Beachcombers.  

He exhibited at: NA, 1938, PAAM, 1934, 1936, 1939, WFNY.  From 1928 on McKain worked for the circus Ringling Brothers.  Here he painted the circus' sets.

McKain was married to Amy B Birge.  

On January 22, 1990, Bruce McKain passed away in Massachusetts.
