Dorothy Rieber Joralemon

Born in San Francisco, CA on March 19, 1893 into an academic and artistic family. Her father, Charles Rieber, was a professor of philosophy at UC Berkeley; her mother, Winifred Smith Rieber, a well-known portrait painter. Dorothy graduated, Phi Beta Kappa, from UC in 1915 followed by two years at the ASL of NYC under DuMond. In 1919 she married Ira B. Joralemon, a geologist and engineer, and lived in Tombstone, AZ until 1922. Returning to Berkeley, the couple commissioned Bernard Maybeck to design a home at 168 Southhampton where she lived for her remaining years. She then further studied with Worth Ryder and Vaclav Vytlacil at the CCAC and at Rudolph Schaeffer's School of Design. In the 1920s Mrs. Joralemon began specializing in chil
