An established California painter and teacher, Elizabeth Borglum participated in exhibitions of the Western Art Association in Omaha, Nebraska in 1888 and 1890. In a November 16 Omaha World-Herald newspaper review of the 1890 event, Elia Peattie wrote: ". . . there is always the really beautiful work of Mrs. Borglum.”

Elizabeth's involvement was through the friendship of her husband, sculptor Gutzon Borglum, and George Lininger, Omaha’s pioneering art collector, who was founder and President of the Western Art Association.
