Biography
Elmira Dudley Mitchell

A student of Frank Peyraud in his plein-aire painting class in Peoria, Illinois, Elmira Mitchell enjoyed painting and sketching out of doors.  In 1869, she married Rodney Mitchell, and when she had family, she took her children with her while she worked in the countryside.

Mitchell was very active in Peoria arts organizations as a member of the Peoria Art League and as a board member of the Art Institute in Peoria.

"It has been said of her that she inspired young artists and introduced many viewers of her landscape paintings to the beauty that can be found in nature."
