Elna Boch came from a family of artists that played a significant role in the cultural life of Roskilde for generations. She took first drawing lessons with her uncle Jacob Kornerup. She learned the art of sculpture as a private pupil of the sculptor August Saabye in Copenhagen. He was also her teacher while studying at the Women’s Art Academy.
By 1900, she lived in Paris. She then traveled to northern Italy. Her works show not only the influence of naturalism, but feature also symbolic elements.
