Biography
Freek Van Den Berg

Freek van den Berg was born in 1918 in Amsterdam. At the age of 17 he began his artistic training under Frits Giltay and Han van Dam. The encounter with the Fauvist painter Kees van Dongen in 1937 was defining for van den Berg, the colors of the so -called 'the wild beasts' impressed him so much that he had to visit Paris, where he was not only inspired by Matisse but further by the painters Derain and Vlaminck.

His motives were preferably landscapes and portraits of women. He also worked as an art critic and painted in the early 1960's stage sets for the opera and the theater.  In addition to that Freek van den Berg participated in various exhibitions, especially in the Kunstzaal Hamdorf Laren.
