Ignace Schott was born July 28, 1818 in Dabo, France. He has sometimes been referred to as Ignace Schott de Dabo or Ignatius Dabo.
Known primarily as a mural artist and stained glass artisan, it is also known that he was an etcher. He signed his work, Ignace Schott, or used a mark created by his initials in the shape of an anchor.
He studied in Paris under Eugene Delacroix, Paul Delaroche and Charles Gleyre. In the 1850s, he taught and painted in the Saverne area, not far from Dabo. In the 1860s he married Marie Madeleine Oberle.
