(1906 - 1972)
Jaap Wagemaker was active/lived in Netherlands. Jaap Wagemaker is known for painting.
Jaap Wagemaker was one of Holland’s most important material painters. In the 1950’s in Paris he got to know the work of Jean Dubuffet and Alberto Burri. As a result he started to use mixed media such as sand, wood and hessian in his paintings.
Another inspiration was the art from Africa and Oceania, form which he derived not only the primitive imagery and dark tones, but also the sense of magic that can be hidden in the objects.
