James S.Hutton started his career as a scenic artist, and with a very good reputation was hired as manager by cyclorama* companies and eventually became a "general press and publicity rep" for the infant amusement park industry including Riverview Park at Western and Belmont in Chicago, which was started just prior to World War One.  This was the beginning of the amusement park concept that featured full-scale panoramas* prior to "roller coasters".

He spent most of his career as a scenic artist including for the Grand Opera House, Columbia, Tennessee; Havilin's Theatre, Chicago; and Lincoln Theatre, Chicago. He eventually became interested in cycloramas as a manager and secretary to the Palestine Exhibition Company of Chi  ...  Displaying 750 of 1296 characters.
