Biography
Jan Maurits Quinkhard

Biography from Venduehuis der Notarissen

Quinkhard (Rees, Germany 1688 - Amsterdam 1772) painted a number of historical and mythological paintings early in his career. He soon abandoned these subjects, because of his success in portrait painting. From 1730 until 1760 he was the most famous portrait painter of Amsterdam. The Frans Hals Museum in Haarlem holds two mythological paintings of Quinkhard in its collection: 'The Rape of Europe' (inv. no. os 91-85a) and 'Jupiter and Juno' (inv. no. os 91-85b), both painted in 1723.
