Mathias Weischer was born in 1973. Mathias Weischer began his artistic education studying painting and prints at the School of Visual Arts in Leipzig as a master pupil of Sighard Gille.
Together with eleven other artists, among them Tom Fabritius, Tim Eitel, David Schnell, and Christoph Ruckhäberle, he established the gallery Liga in Berlin. The artist group is known as the art movement of the 'Neue Leipziger Schule'.
Weischer works in the mediums of drawing, painting, and sculpture. Since 2001, his works have been part of international exhibitions. His works are included in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art Frankfurt am Main, the Museum of Contemporary Art Los Angeles, and the Rubell Family Collection Miami.
He has won several awards, including the scholarship of the Junge Kunst of the Kunsthaus Essen, the August-Macke-Prize, and the Art Prize of the August-Macke-Foundation.
The artist currently works in his own studio in Leipzig.
