Illustrator, painter, designer, born on Nov. 18, 1904 in Melbourne, Australia. He was named for his birthplace, Melbourne and was the son of artist Arthur Brindle. Educated in a one-room school house, he began drawing there in 1914 and the following year did his first painting.
After landing in San Francisco in 1918, he got his first job as a letterer of department store showcards. He remained a self-taught artist except for a brief period at the CSFA. He was active in San Francisco until 1938 when he established a studio in NYC. By then he was a successful illustrator with his works in Woman's Home Companion, Fortune
