One of the few pioneer sculptors in Singapore, Ng Eng Teng's sculptures can be found in various parts of Singapore. Some examples include Contentment (1974), and Mother and Child (1980). A truly prolific artist, he had completed more than 1700 works in his lifetime, of which about 1000 sketches, paintings, maquettes, sculptures, and pottery were donated to NUS Museum.
In 1958, he commenced a period of study with Liu Kang, and subsequently met the British sculptor Jean Bullock, who encouraged his interest in sculpture. Ng's sculptures are strong personal statements of his whimsical imagination. For example, he embarked on a series of sensual sculptures in his late 50s.
