ONYEKA IBE — Nigerian-born Painter, Onyeka Ibe (pronounced ebay), was born in Anambra State, Nigeria and now lives in Atlanta, Ga.  He has been described by the Atlanta Journal Constitution as"one of the most exciting young painters to emerge from Sub-Saharan Africa since the 1990's."

Onyeka Ibe has achieved remarkable success and international recognition with his dramatic approach to painting figures and sceneries.  He was recently awarded "The Best SOLO Artist of the Year 2006" at Artexpo New York and described as the most exciting young painter to emerge from Sub-Saharan Africa since the 1990s.  He looks for inspiration in natural and humanistic traditions of contemporary realism and abstraction.  His paintings express the entire spectrum of nature; human emotions from exhilaration and cheerfulness to contentment.

Encouraged by his father, a painter himself, as a child Onyeka Ibe was introduced to drawing and how to observe and take notes of inspiring subjects.  He achieved youthful success at the age of 16 when he first exhibited his works at National Gallery of Modern Art in Lagos, Nigeria Trained at the University of Benin in Nigeria, his performance at school earned him first class honors (summa cum laude) in Fine Arts from the university.

Ibe continued his education at Georgia State University. He has traveled extensively throughout the United States, South America, Europe, Asia and Africa to show his works, participating as well in seminars and fine arts workshops. His work has been featured in major art publications, museums, private collections and galleries around the world.
