Richard Bisschop, a Dutch painter, draftsman and watercolorist, was born in Leeuwarden and started his artistic
training at the age of 22, when he decided to quit his career as an
engineer in favor of further studies at the Art Academy in Rotterdam.
His oeuvre includes genre scenes as well as townscapes and portraits.
Bisschop was active in Rotterdam and The Hague, where he became a member
of the artists' association Pulchri Studio. Examples of his artistic
output are preserved, for instance, at the Gemeentemuseum in The Hague
or at the Museum voor Moderne Kunst in Arnhem. (cbo)
