From the Third Mesa of the Hopi Reservation in Arizona, Robert Albert has established a reputation as a wood carver and is especially known for his small-scale kachinas and clown figures.  He learned much from an uncle, who sat him down with wood at a kitchen table when he was a youngster.

Albert was a mischievous kid, who from a young age felt akin to clowns, who stirred up both confusion and humor.  However his behavior began to change from age ten when he was inducted into the Kachina Society, which meant that he learned Hopi tribal secrets and gained a special appreciation for his culture.  He took the Hopi name of Sakhomenewa, chosen by his grandmother, a member of the tobacco clan.  The name she  ...  Displaying 750 of 1747 characters.
