Ruth Nettleton was born in Oklahoma and moved to New England in the 1920's. She eventually settled in Rockport, MA where she also had her studio. She was a graduate of the University of Oklahoma and studied under John Enser.
She was represented by galleries in Massachusetts, Oklahoma, Virginia and Maryland. She won awards in juried exhibitions in Massachusetts, Texas,and Oklahoma. She was a longstanding and respected member of the Rockport Art Association, the North Shore Arts Association and the Copley Society among others. Her paintings were in a colorful impressionist style,and she is best known for seascapes around Rockport and Gloucester and landscapes in Vermont and Maine reminiscent of Aldro Hibbard's style.
