Sherman Beck


Sherman Beck (American, b. 20th century)
 
African American artist active in Chicago and a member of Africobra*. Beck graduated from the University of Illinois at Chicago and completed further studies at the School of the Art Institute in Chicago.* He worked as a commercial artist, and apprenticed at advertising agencies in display, sign and filmstrip, and worked as a free-lance illustrator. He returned to his alma mater, Dunbar High School, and worked for twenty-two years, the longest term of a commercial art teacher there.
 
Beck’s work has been featured in the following exhibitions:
