Victor Valery was a French etcher who specialized in copper etchings in multi-color, predominantly of scenes in and around Paris. The prevailing notations indicate he was born in 1881 and died in 1910.
But Valery's work itself makes it clear he lived at least into the mid
1920's. A Valery etching of the victorious World War I generals at
Versailles is known; and that could not have been created before the
Spring of 1919. Moreover, several Valery etchings of scenes of Paris
include depictions of women dressed in fashion from about 1925 - short
skirts, bobbed hair, and the hats that go with - a style of dress that
simply did not exist in 1910 or before.
