A western Canadian painter, Walter James Baber was born in London (Kensington), England, immigrated to Canada in 1897 and died in New Westminster, British Columbia where he had lived and worked as an artist since at least 1901. Several of his works are in British Columbia museum collections. (1)

His primary medium was watercolors. His subjects included landscapes, coastal views, mountains, rivers and street scenes. The painting locations were in British Columbia (especially around Vancouver), Alberta, Great Britain and Europe. His style was Realism*. The askART auction results have some excellent illustrations of his oeuvre.
