Biography
Oscar Bachelder

Oscar L. Bachelder was born 1852 in Menasha, Wisconsin, son of potter and craftsman Calvin Bachelder ( b. 1826 - d. 1906 ), who later worked at Bennington Pottery in Vermont.

In 1911, Oscar and a partner Robert Gudger bought four acres of land in the North Carolina mountains and started a pottery.  The partnership didn't last, but Oscar continued working there, making mostly art pottery.  In 1916, he renamed the pottery Omar Khayyam Pottery, and continued working there until his death in 1935.  He fired to stoneware temperatures and used mostly Albany slip for his glaze.
