Biography from the Archives of askART

The following biographical data is from Bill Lockwood, who wrote: "I came across this information while doing some research on this talented female artist and since you don't have a biography on her, thought it might be of interest.  She was featured in Life magazine in March of 1950 as one of the most promising American artists under the age of 36.  Each of those featured artists had one piece selected for a show at the Metropolitan Museum of Art which also opened March, 1950. The following obit was copied directly from the newspaper, The St. Augustine Record- Published Thursday, January 24, 2002:"

Aleta Cornelius Eastman, 79, of Flagler Beach, died Jan. 22, 2002, at her home. She had resided in Flagler Beach since 1983, moving there from St. Augustine, where she owned an art studio. She was an artist of note nationwide, and was a member of First Baptist Church of Flagler Beach, charter president of Flagler County Council for the Arts, for which she designed the logo; and was a member of the Flagler Auditorium board, Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority, the Education Foundation, Who's Who of American Women, and Who's Who of America.  She attended Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, Pa., and was a juried art judge. She had won many prizes for her art work nationwide and was featured in Life magazine for her artwork."
