Hartwell Paul O'Bryne was born in Mountain View, CA on Dec. 21, 1893. O'Bryne studied at UC Berkeley and was greatly influenced by Dong Kingman. During the 1930s he was a commercial artist and headed an art project for the Works Progress Administration. After WWII he abandoned commercial work but continued to paint in his leisure. His subjects include farm scenes, landscapes, and maritime subjects. A resident of San Francisco most of his life, he died there on Dec. 21, 1966.
