Vern (Verna) Wiman was born in San Francisco, CA on Aug. 20, 1912. Vern Wiman (née Verna Wieman) was cloistered in a convent during her early years. She studied locally at the Schaeffer School of Design and the CSFA under Maurice Sterne (1936). She worked as a caricaturist for the San Francisco Chronicle and was most active in San Francisco during the 1940s. A spinster, Wiman died in her native city on Jan. 13, 1977. Member: Society of Calif. Etchers. Exh: CSFA, 1938-39 (prize); Portland (OR) Museum, 1939, 1944; San Francisco Art Association, 1940; De Young Museum, 1943; St Louis Museum, 1944; Carnegie Inst., 1944; Raymond Gallery (SF), 1945; Labaudt Gallery (SF), 1940s. Murals: Portola Theater (SF); Sir Francis Drake Hotel (SF).
