Walter Curtis Yeomans

Biography from the Archives of askART

Walter Curtis Yeomans was born in 1882 in Avon, Illinois. After his studies at the University of Illinois, Yeomans privately studied painting and watercolor with Frederick F. Fursman, a significant Illinois landscape master. Later, Yeomans studied with American Impressionist, Frank Alfred Bicknell.

At the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Yeomans worked with Aldro T. Hibbard and Jerry Farnsworth both of whom helped Yeomans develop a pleasing and relaxed variation on American Realism.

Yeomans exhibited widely with one-person and/or group exhibitions at the 1939 World's Fair, New York; the Library of Congress, Washington; the Rockport Art Association, Massachusetts; and the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, England.

After a move to Jacksonville, Florida, Yeomans exhibited annually at the St. Augustine Art Association after relocating to that city after 1936 where he lived and worked at 32 Sanford St., St. Augustine.

Walter Curtis Yeomans printmaker, commercial artist, illustrator, educator and painter died in Jacksonville, Florida in 1972.
