Born August 20, 1945, Charles Movalli still lives in his hometown of
Gloucester, Massachusetts. He received his BA from Clark
University and PhD in English from the University of Connecticut.

Winner of numerous awards and honors for his painting, Movalli belongs
to the Salmagundi Club (Gold Medal), the North Shore Arts Association
(Clark Award and Gorton Award), the Rockport Art Association (Cooley
Award, Goldberg Award, New Member Award), the Hudson Valley Art
Association (Goldschneider Award), and Academic Artists.
He is a prolific instructor and writer on painting and is a Contributing Editor to American Artist Magazine, for which he has written over 50 articles. He also edited How to Paint Successful Seascapes and Color in Outdoor Painting with Roger Curtis, Gruppe on Painting and Brushwork with Emile Gruppe, and Painting with Light with Betty Schlemm. He wrote the historical Preface to W. M. Hunt's On Painting and Drawing.
Considered by many professional artists to be a very influential artist
and art instructor in America, Movalli has conducted workshops and
painting demonstrations throughout the United States for both
