Chris Achilleos (b. 1947)
Born in Famagusta, Cyprus, he now lives and works in London. Achilleos is an artist and illustrator known for his glamour art and fantasy images such as Dragons and Amazons inspired by mythology and ancient civilizations. His work has been collected and showcased in four art books: Amazona, Medusa, Sirens, and Beauty and the Beast. He is also recognized for the original Star Trek, Target, and Dr. Who book-cover illustrations. He has painted book covers for novels by fantasy authors Michael Moorcock, Edgar Rice Burrough, and Robert E. Howard. In addition, he worked on the movies Heavy Metal, Willow, King Arthur, and The Last Legion.
He moved with his mother and siblings to London after his father died. Shortly after the move, he began drawing and knew he wanted to become a professional artist.
He attended Hornsey College of Art, graduating in 1969. There he studied technical illustration and learned about different drawing disciplines, perspective and airbrushing.
Achilleos continues his work on the occasional book cover, but now devotes much of his time to creating fantasy trading cards and selling original art and prints.
