A Native American and life-time resident of the San Ildefonso Pueblo, Richard Martinez was known for mural painting, and was one of the original students at the Santa Fe Indian School for whom he did a series of dining room murals in 1936.

"He painted as early as 1920, and, in 1950, he was still painting mythological and ceremonial subjects."  (Lester 345)

Artwork by Martinez is in the Indian print portfolio dated 1932 in the J.L. Hubbell Collection at the Hubbell Trading Post in Ganado, Arizona.
