Of particular interest to her were Matisse, El Greco, Arshile Gorky and Renaissance painters who did alter pieces.
Tabachnick was born in Derby, Connecticut on July 28, 1933. Her father was a highly regarded Yiddish poet. For three years, she studied with Hans Hofmann and also attended Hunter College in New York, the University of California at Berkeley, and New York University where she did graduate work.
