Goddard Gale, a painter of California landscapes and coastal scenes, began his art career in England, where he was born in 1857. He was known to have studied there before moving to America, and settling in San Francisco, California.
While living in California, Gale focused on local subjects for his art. He often used the San Francisco Bay and the Carmel coast for inspiration in his work primarily as a painter. He was a member of the Bay Region Art Association and died in Oakland, California in 1938, recognized as a contributor to the local art scene before his death.
Born in England in 1858. Gale had studied art and won recognition in England before immigrating to California in 1895. He lived in San Francisco until 1902 and then moved across the bay to Oakland where he remained. He was active in the local art scene until shortly before his death on Aug. 12, 1938.
