Born in Trenton, New Jersey, Marian Steele became a landscape and marine painter who received more than 100 awards for the quality of her painting.
She studied at the Trenton School of Industrial Arts and then at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts with Daniel Garber. From the Academy, she received the Cresson Traveling Scholarship to Europe.
She had studios in Cambridge and in her home in Gloucester overlooking Good Harbor Beach.

Marian was the wife of Chauncey Steele. She studied at the PAFA. Most of her career was spent as a resident of Cambridge and Rockport, MA; however, she made many trips to southern California to paint and exhibit. She died in Gloucester, MA on Feb. 8, 2001.
