Henry Payot

Born in South Carolina of French parents on Jan. 15, 1838. Payot was 13 when he arrived in San Francisco with the Gold Rush. He worked for lithographers Quirot & Company and later had his own litho-engraving business called Payot, Upham & Company. Before the turn of the century he had made several world tours and trips to Japan of which he lectured locally. By 1907 he was a San Francisco supervisor and member of the board of education. He died in San Francisco on Nov. 21, 1921. In: Society of Calif. Pioneers (view of San Francisco in 1860).
