Rebecca Wagstaff

Biography from the Archives of askART

From Salt Lake City, the oldest of eight children, Rebecca Wagstaff was raised in Utah a family that valued education.  She enrolled in Brigham Young University as a premed student focused on obstetrics, but after taking a watercolor class, switched to art.  Then following an interest she developed in Arno Werner, a Connecticut German bookbinder, she moved to New York City where she took a nanny job and then contacted Werner.  She then became his apprentice, and combined this with her nanny employment.

In college, she met her future husband, Clay Wigstaff, an artist, and they married in 1991 while she was working for Werner.  However, she ultimately discontinued the bookbinding, and moved with Clay to Bryce, Utah, where they share a large studio, and raise their two daughters.
