His style, which he calls Historical Realism, combines Impressionism and Realism and includes Northern Plains Indians and figures from the American West from the 1850s to the turn-of-the century.
He uses Native American models and simulates those early days by standing in the path of stampeding buffalo, participating in 1880-style shoot outs, and spending time on Civil War battlefields. He usually works on several paintings at once, moving from one canvas to the next.
