Biography
Leandro Bassano

Leandro Bassano was born in 1557 with the name Leandro Dal Ponte in Bassano.  Like his brother Francesco, he received his education at his father's workshop, in which he collaborated in many works.  By around 1588, Leonardo moved to his brother in Venice.  He there received commissions for the decoration of the Doge's Palace and was appointed ‘Cavaliere di S.Marco’ in 1595/96.

Besides altarpieces and history paintings, Bassano painted numerous portraits.  Today, works by the painter can be found in collections of important museums, including the Museum of Fine Arts in Budapest, the Hermitage in St. Petersburg, the Louvre, the National Gallery, London, and the Uffizi in Florence.   ...  Displaying 734 of 734 characters.
