Eugeniusz Eibisch

Biography from Agra Art S.A.

Eugeniusz Eibisch (1896-1987)

A painter and educator.  In the years 1912 - 1920 he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow under the direction of Jacek Malczewski And Wojciech Weiss.  Later he moved to Paris where he exhibited his paintings in salons and galleries enjoying the appreciation of the critique and the friendship of Georges Braque, Louis Marcoussis, Soutine and Waclaw Borowski among other artists.

He returned to Poland in 1939 in order to take the chair in the Painting Department at the Cracow Academy.  It happened however not before the end of war.  In 1950 he was a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw.

The subject of Eibisch's paintings were landscapes, still life and portraits mostly feminine.  In his early works the influence of Formist can be observed.  In his later works colors successively take the place of form until his paintings become almost abstract coloristic compositions.
