Hans Haffenrichter trained as a mechanic initially after school at the University of Würzburg, however in 1921 he became a student at the Bauhaus in Weimar. Haffenrichter dealt mainly with the representations of plants and was fascinated by the cosmos.
For several years he was the head of the art school 'Der Weg' in Berlin. From 1931 to 1933 he was a professor of art and craft education at the Pedagogical Academy in Elbing. Haffenrichters enthusiasm and his curiosity about the relationships of nature gave him a wide variety of jobs in the industry and at various institutions.
