Konstantin Kakanias was born in Athens in 1961. In 1979 he moved to Paris where he studied fashion and art. He worked as an illustrator for famous designers and fashion magazines such as 'Vogue'. In 1988, he moved to New York, working for Tiffany's and Barney's as well as the 'New York Times' and 'Vanity Fair'.
He created the figure of 'Mrs. Tependris', his alter ego as a caricature of an art collector, which is also seen as a metaphor for the superficial reception of contemporary art. In 1997 Kakanias moved to Los Angeles. The artist lives and works in LA and in Greece.
