Clive Madgwick was a British painter best known for realistic pastoral
scenes that depicted trout fisherman, farmers at work in the field, and
sleepy harbour towns. Born in 1934 in Surrey, United Kingdom, he studied
dental medicine at Guy's Hospital and pursued painting as a hobby until
middle age when he made it his sole occupation. In the late 1990s and
early 2000s, Madgwick traveled to Italy where he painted Venetian and
Florentine landscapes and architecture. He was a member of the Royal
Society of British Artists and frequently exhibited in his native
Britain until his death in 2005 in Suffolk, United Kingdom. Madgwick's
oil paintings are in the collection of HM Queen Elizabeth II at Windsor
Castle.
