Of Slovene descent, Anton Zoran Mušic was born in the Austro-Hungarian
town of Bukovica near Gorizia, Italy. He and his family were forced to
flee multiple times due to war, occupation, and border changes. From
1930 to 1935, he attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb and
travelled extensively afterwards, until he was sent to the Nazi Dachau
concentration camp in 1943. After the war, Mušic established an
exceptional international standing and was awarded the Prix de Paris in
1951, the Venice Biennial Art Graphic Prize in 1956, and the UNESCO
Prize in 1960. He received particular recognition for his works from the
1970s, inspired by Dachau. In 1984, he was appointed Commandeur des
