A figurative painter, his works are influenced by the folkloric tradition of his native land. He combines his poetic imagination which comes close to that of the primitives, with contemporary graphic design such as in is posters, popular cartoons, and children's ilustrations.
Uhart studied law and economics at the University of Concepción, but was always attracted to painting. In 1965 he moved to Europe and began to study at the École des beaux-arts in Paris, but he soon abandoned it since he considered the education as far too academic.
With mural paintings playing a vital role in the South America society, Uhart creates his own version in so-called floating walls, where he takes large loose sheets as support for his murals and hangs them in public streets and gardens, for everybody to enjoy.
In the '70s his paintings expressed an indictment of the Chilean dictatorship, supporting the fight for freedom. Uhart then evolved in cycles, first with The Amazons, then The Musicians, and many more, including The Master and Margarita. In 1976 he began experimenting with photography, scratching and painting over Polaroid pictures.
