Painter in oils & watercolor. Particularly noted for his "curvispective" style of painting usually in oils, often of interiors, hunting/sporting scenes, coastal and harbour views, quiet rural scenes & distorted perspectives. His paintings are often described as "little excursions for the mind". The artist's titles for his paintings are important and considered as part of the whole. He has also completed many paintings of military subjects as a result of activities as an 'unofficial war artist' . Frames (frequently black-painted) are usually made by the artist and often the rear of them is painted scarlet.
Particularly influenced by the work of Claude Lorrain, Turner, Gainsborough, Stanley Spencer & Carel Weight.
Educated at Lancing College, St Andrews University (MA 1983), and the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst (all in the UNited Kingdom) from whence he was commissioned into The Royal Highland Fusiliers, seeing service in Northern Ireland, West Germany, Berlin, Canada, and the Gulf War of 1990/91. He retired as a Captain in May 1991 & became a painter. Married 1986 Marie-Louise Maze, granddaughter of the Franco/British painter Paul Maze, one son, one daughter. Jonathan Armigel Wade is not a member of any Artist's organisations or groups. Since about 2003 he has used his middle name as well as his first in order to avoid confusion with the deceased Irish painter also called 'Jonathan Wade ' ( after a mix-up in a London auction catalogue).
His paintings are represented in various British regimental museums and notably in the National Army Museum in London, also in many private collections in the USA, UK & Europe (particularly France where he lived mid 1991 to late 1992).
