During her initial period, Dumitresco was ascribed to figural
painting. Her style opened up to abstraction once the couple moved to
Paris in 1947. Here she was in close contact with the artists of the
avant-garde and she took courses at the academy of André Lhote in Paris.
A main part of her life was determined by the close friendship to
Constantin Brancusi who made her and her husband the sole heirs of his
work, and for whom she created a complete monograph. Dumitresco and
Istrati became French citizens in 1956. Her works were presented at
international exhibitions in Brussels, New York, Cologne, Tokyo and
