Mariano Bertuchi Nieto

Mariano Bertuchi was born in 1884 in Granada.  He began his education under the landscape artist José Larrocha (1850-1933) and studied later at the Academy for Fine Arts in San Felipe and at the university in Madrid.

When the Second Moroccan War broke out in 1921, Bertuchi was one of the artists who came along next to journalists and photographers to document the events.  The painter was instantly fascinated by the country and moved there permanently.  He became the chief inspector of Fine Arts Services in the Protectorate and founded the school for Fine Arts in Tetouan.

Mariano Bertuchi Nieto's works can be found in numerous public collections.
