One of the best Valencian painters of the Valencian school of the Baroque era was Juan Conchillos. Initially trained in Valencia with Esteban March and then in Madrid with José García Hidalgo and Antonio Palomino, on his return to the capital of the Turia he devoted himself to teaching by opening a painting academy in his own studio in which he did a coal academy every night. Palomino remembers that he also used to draw gouache, taking quick notes of "whatever was offered to him, or of some capricious place he had seen". A good example is this group of three angels, a previous study for a composition that he made in the lunette of the Angels, worshiping the Crown of Thorns of the Monastery of Santa Faz in Alicante.
