Alfonso Mena Pacheco

Biography from Morton Casa de Subastas

He studied at La Esmeralda. Throughout his career he has received scholarships and recognitions in Mexico and abroad. Between biennials, fairs, contests, salons and groups, he has participated in more than ninety exhibitions. His work is part of museums and private collections in different parts of the world. He currently works and lives between Mexico and New York. "Mena seeks to persuade the viewer through the use of linguistic tools and pictorial techniques that could seem anachronistic in the digital era: encaustic, lead, resin or graphite." His painting is covered with veils that allow us to glimpse the hidden material and a multiplicity of planes that are intertwined from their reflections Like Paul Klee, Mena makes invisible forces visible, his painting is the manifestation of an independent and irreducible principle, the inner reality, hence the centrifugal force of his images. Mena's abstraction admits the inclusion of figures and words, reality becomes a mental image, full of intention ". Miguel Ángel Rosas. Consulted source: ROSAS, Miguel Ángel. "Alfonso Mena, Seduction". Mexico. Text of the retrospective exhibition presented at the Museum of Modern Art, 2013.
