Fernando Castro Pacheco was a multifaceted artist who captured faces, colors, feelings and images that exalted Mexican art, especially the culture of his native land, Yucatan. Concerned always with education, he taught for many years in institutions of great importance. In 1941, he founded the Free School of Plastic Arts of Merida, which allowed him to experiment outdoors and under this influence he made his first lithographs and engravings in wood. His oil paintings were of his most predominant works, as were the murals, in which he narrated national histories and Mayan tales. From the 70's onwards, he decided to integrate with greater dedication the theme of the human figure in his work.
