Alexander Derbenyov received his formal training at the Kiev Art Institute, where he majored in architecture. Upon graduation, he pursued a successful career as an architect, receiving the honorary title, "Architect of the USSR". Derbenyov participated in many art exhibits and received numerous awards for his architectural designs. However, he also pursued fine art.
Mr. Derbenyov's fine art reflects his architectural design training. He painted with a strong, intuitive sense for physical space and dimensions. Even in his smallest pieces, the spatial relations between objects and figures are well-defined, and overall his paintings exhibit a refreshing sense of depth.
