Phillips Dwight Rader was born in Maine in 1890. Rader studied at the San Francisco Institute of Art in 1908-09. He was a cartoonist-writer for local newspapers in 1910-11 and continued for Hearst papers in NYC until 1914. Upon entering the Air Corps during WWI, he distinguished himself as an air ace. His legs were broken in an airplane collision in 1916 and another air crash took his life in Buffalo, NY on June 6, 1918.
