Charles Danford

Biography from Great Western Art Gallery, LLC

Charles K. (Chuck) Danford was born in Denver in June 1941 and presently lives in Littleton, Colorado.   He is, professionally, a graphic designer. His motifs include nature, mountains, rural landscapes, flowers and wildlife.   He paints the West in an impressionistic style in watercolor with wet washes.

Danford is a member of the Colorado Watercolor Society; his juried exhibitions include pieces in the Colorado Watercolor Society, Colorado Governor's Invitations Show, Mountainside Art Guild, Colorado Artists Guild and the Aurora Artist Guild.  He has received awards and distinctions from The Art directors Club of Denver, The Denver Advertising Federation, Print Magazines, CA Magazine, The New York Art Directories Club.

A Colorado native, Chuck Danford is widely recognized for his work in graphic design. A graduate of the Colorado Institute of Art, Danford started his career with work as art director at a Denver television station and designer for the Denver Research Institute at the University of Denver.  In 1967, he co-founded Unit One, Inc., a graphic design studio.  A past president of the Art Directors Club of Denver, Danford is active in the art community and has served on the Board of Directors for several civic organizations.  He has been painting professionally since 1998.  His work can be found in private collections and he is currently exhibiting in a number of regional galleries.

Danford is concerned with the medium, the cause and effect, the actual application of paint and the way colors interact when they make contact with the paper or each other to stir the emotion of the observer.  He views his paintings as an opportunity to see subjects in another way.   Each painting evolves from a spontaneous beginning as a uniquely different and powerful artistic expression.

His paintings stimulate and entertain the viewers' imagination, offering a tranquil escape into the shapes, colors and textures emerging from the paper.
His paintings feature a well defined image in the foreground and an impressionistic background.
